Why Communism Failed: A Revolutionary’s Autopsy
By Immortal Technique

You wanna know why communism failed? Not because Marx was wrong—but because the world that tried to build it was set up to make it fail from the jump. They dropped the hammer and sickle on feudal-ass countries still knee-deep in peasant labor, while the real capitalist vultures sat back with automated factories, private banks, and a death grip on power. Communism didn’t collapse because it’s a bad idea—it collapsed because the people who claimed to lead it never let go of the one thing that matters: POWER.

1. Backward Material Conditions: Building Socialism With a Hoe and a Donkey

Marx said communism had to come after advanced capitalism—after industry had already built the infrastructure, after machines replaced back-breaking labor. But where did “communist” revolutions happen? Russia, 1917—a feudal empire where most people were illiterate farmers. China, 1949—a war-torn agrarian society. Cuba, 1959—a sugar plantation run by the U.S. mafia.

You can’t collectivize poverty. You can’t redistribute scarcity. These countries didn’t have factories to nationalize—they had dirt and desperation. Meanwhile, the West was automating, stacking capital, and turning money into a weapon. Communism in the 20th century was like trying to build a spaceship out of a wooden cart.

2. The Cancer of Usury: Debt as a Weapon

Capitalism doesn’t just control production—it controls money itself. Private banks, interest, predatory loans—that’s how the West strangled every socialist experiment. The Soviet Union didn’t collapse because of inefficiency; it collapsed because it drowned in debt, sanctions, and an arms race it couldn’t win.

You think Cuba’s economy is weak because socialism doesn’t work? Nah—it’s weak because the U.S. blockade ensures they can’t trade, can’t borrow, can’t even get medicine without bending the knee. Capitalism doesn’t compete with communism—it suffocates it.

3. The Revolution Betrayed: Power Was Never Shared

But the real failure? The Party became the new ruling class. Lenin talked about the “withering away of the state,” but instead, the state became a pyramid with a dictator on top. The Soviets replaced the Tsar with the General Secretary. China swapped emperors for “Chairmen for Life.”

Communism was supposed to be about workers controlling production—but in practice, it was just a new elite controlling workers. The people never owned the factories. They never controlled the police. They never had a real say. And when the masses finally got tired of the lies? The whole system crumbled—not because they wanted capitalism, but because they were tired of being told they were free while living under a boot.

Conclusion: The Next Revolution Can’t Make the Same Mistakes

Communism didn’t fail because human nature is greedy—it failed because the material conditions weren’t there, because capitalism sabotaged it at every turn, and because the revolutionaries became the new oppressors.

If we ever try again, it’s gotta be different.

  • Automate first. You can’t have abundance without machines doing the work.
  • Abolish usury. No more private banks strangling the economy.
  • Share power for real. Not just in speeches—in practice.

Otherwise? We’re just trading one set of chains for another. And I ain’t dying for that.
